"Our pledge and our prayer this day are those of free men and free women who know that all we hold dear must constantly be built up, fostered, revered, and guarded vigilantly from those in every age who seek its destruction. We know, as have our nation's defenders down through the years, that there can never be peace without its essential elements of liberty, justice, and independence."

Committed to Honoring America's Fallen Heroes

United in our Grief and in our Strength

We get letters and emails every week from gold star mothers, daughters or other family members who are so glad we started this organization for dads. They tell us how hard it has been on their husbands and their fathers and how they worry about them. For so long the fathers of soldiers have felt left out.

I know that feeling is partly because men tend to show their sorrow differently than women. AFTER ALL we are suppose to be the strong ones, the providers, the protectors. Truth is, sometimes we find it hard to provide and almost impossible to protect. Some actually believe, if I would have protected better or done something different, maybe my son would still be alive.

That is totally wrong of course, the truth of the matter is our sons and daughters did what they thought was "the right thing to do" and nothing we were going to say would have made a difference, and rightly so. Each of our children made a conscious choice to protect freedom and fight evil. As a nation we owe them a great debt of gratitude, as a father I am filled with sorrow and bursting with pride at the same time. Only another Gold Star could begin to understand that.

But we all know men do cry, we do hurt, we just put a different face on it, sometimes it works, mostly it is to our detriment. Sometimes we take that as shame because deep inside we are just helpless little boys playing a dangerous game we were taught so long ago.

With that in mind, we have opened the GSD Patriot Forum section for members to help each other work those kinks out, brag about our sons and help with our loneliness. In the coming months we will also add scheduled weekly Chat Sessions with Professional Grief counselors and Clergy for those who would like more one on one help.

If we can unite in our grief then we can become stronger as a group

So as you can see we are paying attention, and learning, both from our mistakes and our successes. Thanks to the women's organizations around the United States, both Blue Star & Gold Star we are seeing what is possible when you forget your pride and politics and work together towards a common goal.

To the fantastic women that we were lucky enough to marry and raise our amazing children with; thank you for helping us raise our sons and daughters to be the fine patriotic, caring adults they are, and thank you for being there for us in our time of sorrow and weakness.

That Said, Now its time to get to work!

How Do We Honor Their Sacrifice?

Mission 2008 and Beyond

Gold Star Commemorative Cards. Starting in the Summer of 2008 we will be sending out Special Commemorative cards to the families who have registered in our Gold Star Dads database. Rather than trying to send out Mothers Day and Fathers Day cards we have decided to celebrate the life of our fallen American Heroes with a special Gold Star Commemorative Card each year on or near the KIA date of the soldier. The actual design of the inaugural cards is not known at this time but we believe they will add a smile to the face of the recipients and bring honor to the soldier.

In addition to the Gold Star Commemorative Cards we are designing a special American Hero Tribute Medal. This beautiful, full color 2 1/2" medal will commemorate the fallen soldiers service and honor his families sacrifice. It is our intention to present these tributes to each and every Father that has lost a son or daughter in the Global War on Terror in either Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom.

Just these two missions is a big order and will require a great deal of time money and effort to catch up with the current casualty list.

That is one of the reasons we have also slated for 2008 the creation of the American Heroes Store to help in the fund raising efforts. Items available will include our first Gold Star Challenge Coin. The design of these unique challenge coins will commemorate and honor the sacrifice of our American Heroes and will have a limited mint each year of only 1000 coins. Also planned is a selection of custom designed patriotic shirts, hats, window strikers and a special Gold Star Dads of America lapel pin.

The sales will constitute a major part of our main fundraising efforts. Your continued support of this organization through the purchase of these Gold Star Challenge Coins and merchandise is greatly appreciated.
